Hi list, A couple of days ago I posted the summary for the question about the maximum number of fields in an AV32 ASCII TXT-table, and that I still hadn't got a definite answer. Bill Huber came up with a more sensible solution: ===snip=== "In AV 3.2a running on Win NT 4.0 SP 6 I was able to add and view a (one-record) text table with 2824 records, but not with 2825. I repeated the experiment several times, alternating back and forth between the two values, to check that the number isn't some erratic or varying value. [...] It occurred to me the limitation is not the number of fields, but the total length of field names, accounting for ArcView's penchant to truncate names to 10. Including quotation marks and commas, I can feed it just a header record of just over 2^15 bytes, but no more. I don't have the time to track down all the details of the limitation, but this evidence should point you in the right direction. It also explains why you might get different answers from different sources--the number of fields can vary tremendously, depending on their lengths." ===snip=== Regards, Rebecca ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rebecca Retzlaff Universität Trier FB VI / SFB 522 Umwelt und Region Z4 - GIS und Datenmanagement D-54286 Trier GERMANY Tel + 49 (0)651 201 4597 bzw. 4591 Fax + 49 (0)651 201 3815 Email: retzlaff@uni-trier.de ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
